• Student age: 3 – 12 years old
• Class size: 6 – 12 students per class
• Class length: 40 minutes per class
• Working Hours: 40 hours; office hours and teaching hours.
• Chinese Teaching Assistant: You will be assisted with a bilingual Chinese teacher.
• Training: Initial 7 – 10 day Junior training, monthly training online
• Responsible for whole learning process for students. Help the students to do pre-learning and review, keep a close contact with parents about learning progress.
• Support other teaching or marketing activities as needed, e.g Demo show, Ceremony, family day, Open day.
• Decoration the classroom with suitable materials. keeping teaching equipment in good conditions.
• Proactively participating in the school’s social program including Extra Curricular Activities.
• Actively participating in Employee training programs by the school
• Attending all scheduled meetings where the teachers’ presence is required.
• Other tasks assigned by the Education Department and Center Director within his/her working hours.

• Average monthly salary RMB 15K-25K per month. USD 2,290 – 3820 before tax
• 40 hours week, 2 days off per week 
• There will be a payment toward airfare costs of 6,000 RMB after the Employee has completed 12 months of the contract.
• The Employee will be given all statutory holidays as paid holiday, In addition the Employee will be granted a 1-day paid holiday for Christmas. 
• The Employee is allowed 3 sick days without deduction of salary.

Position Offer

• The candidate is given the name of the AEON branch school, information about the location, and the exact contract dates, as well as time to consider the position.

Offer Acceptance

• Upon accepting the position offer, the recruiters will ask for information to complete the employment documents and visa application.
• The contract and other important documents will be sent and the candidate will have time to read all of the information carefully.
• A phone call will be scheduled to cover any questions the candidate has about the contract and terms of employment. During this call, the contract is signed.

Employment Documents and Visa Application

• Employment documents are received from the new teacher, prepared and sent to Japan.
• AEON submits the visa paperwork to Japanese Immigration officials for issuance of a Certificate of Eligibility (pre-approval document for the work visa) for the new teacher.

Support

• Recruiters send newsletters filled with information and tips on life in Japan and working at AEON, basic Japanese practice, and online quizzes to help our new teachers brush up on their English grammar skills.
• Each new teacher is asked to write a letter of introduction to their school to introduce themselves to their new co-workers.
• Recruiters are always available to answer any questions our new teachers have during their preparation.

Issuance of the Certificate of Eligibility

• About three to four weeks before departure, the Certificate of Eligibility will be sent from Japan to the new teacher.

• The visa is generally issued about one week after the application is submitted.

Preparation for departure to Japan

• New teachers will access AEON’s Pre-Departure website containing pre-training and other useful information.

• Two to three weeks before departure, recruiters will have a phone call with the new teacher to discuss details about their arrival in Japan and training.

Arrival in Japan

• New teachers will be met at the airport by an AEON representative, who will assist them with forwarding their main luggage to their branch school.
• Once everyone arrives at the airport meeting area, the group will head to the training center. Transportation cost from the airport to the training center is covered by AEON.

Abroad ESL School Job Requirements

All applicants must have a strong and masterful command of the English language and a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Applicants must also be able to work in Japan. For those who need visa sponsorship, it will be provided by AEON. Therefore applicants must be eligible for a Specialist in Humanities/International Services Visa.

In order to be issued a Specialist in Humanities/International Services Visa, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs requires applicants to have relevant experience. This can be any one of the following:

• A Bachelor’s degree in any major from an accredited institution in an English-speaking country and at least 10 years of education from schools where English is the primary mode of education.
• A Bachelor’s degree in a subject related to English or English Education.
• A Bachelor’s degree in any major and at least 3 years of verifiable experience teaching ESL.

Other Considerations

• Teaching experience (and/or a teaching certificate) is helpful, but not necessary. AEON offers paid training in Japan.
• Japanese language experience is helpful for daily life, but not necessary. Teachers speak English at the schools.
• Applicants should possess a genuine interest in the culture and people of Japan as well as in teaching and business.

Timing

• AEON recruits year round with positions starting every month of the year.
• Applications should be made three to six months before one’s desired start date in Japan.
  • Candidates who do not yet have a Bachelor’s degree may apply before they finish their degree. Applications should be submitted no more than six months before the expected date the degree will be awarded.

• All vacations and holidays are fully paid

• Teachers will receive 3 one-week (approximately 7 days or more) paid vacation periods at designated times throughout the year and an additional 5 paid personal days per year to use. All Japanese national holidays are observed.

• If the teacher needs to commute by public transportation from the apartment to the school, the expenses are paid by AEON
• All other commuting expenses related to AEON are also covered, e.g. trainings and workshops

• Being one of the largest companies in the industry, AEON offers a variety of career paths for our teachers

• One-time bonus paid upon completion of the final contract
• Teachers completing 12-23 months receive 80,000 Japanese yen
• Teachers completing 24 or more months receive 160,000 Japanese yen

• AEON sponsors our teachers’ work visa for Japan

• All teachers are provided comprehensive health insurance through the Japan Health Insurance Association
• Teachers are provided health insurance coverage through the Japan Health Insurance Association and must contribute into the Japan Pension Service. Approximately 40,000 yen per month is deducted from the teacher’s monthly salary for both the Insurance and Pension. Approximately 25,000 yen (Pension contribution) of this deduction is refundable from the Japanese Government for up to 3 years.

Apply Online

Through the recruiting locations page, candidates choose the most convenient recruiting location and submit their resume and essay. Applications are screened and successful candidates are offered an interview over Skype.

Skype Interview

Candidates complete a brief (10-20 minute), professional interview over Skype. During the Skype Interview, candidates will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and discuss the responsibilities of an AEON teacher. Successful candidates will be invited to a General Meeting and Group Interview.

General Meeting and Group Interview

The General Meeting and Group Interview is an in-person interview where candidates will be able to learn more about AEON (and also observe and teach short lesson demonstrations).

Candidates are responsible for any expenses incurred in traveling to the interview sessions. Candidates must attend all stages of the interview process in order to be considered for a position with AEON. For those who live in countries outside of the areas where AEON has recruiting locations, it may be possible to complete the interview process through Skype.

Personal Interview

Candidates who pass the Group Interview will be offered a Personal Interview later in the same day.

Position Search

After a candidate has successfully completed the Personal Interview, AEON will begin the position search. When placing successful candidates, we take into consideration what unique set of strengths they can bring to the school, as well as the needs of the school and students. We also want our candidates to feel comfortable with their placement in Japan. During the interview process, candidates will be asked their preferences regarding school location, number of children’s classes they would like to teach, and the timing of their departure. AEON will try to accommodate these requests to the best of our ability. However, we are not always able to fulfill the requests since we can only offer positions that are open.

When a position offer is made, we will inform the candidate of the exact contract dates, location of the school, and types of lessons currently being taught at the school. Additionally, the candidate will have the opportunity to read AEON’s Contract and Policy Manual thoroughly before signing.
